large Axe I Purchased from heir of finder in Philadelphia, PA. I
have not washed it at all....... so far. It has a nice bit, a well
made groove and is nicely made. It shows signs that it may have
been used as a door stop as many of these were on farms. It is
almost Eight inches long and weighs over 5 pounds.

- Description: Limonite Full Groove Axe - This Axe
was recovered from the site of historic Morgan's Station
around 1930 by Elijah Groves. Mr.
Elijah Groves farmed the site of Morgan's Station in the late
1920's and 1930's. Elijah was born on Aug. 27, 1897
and died on July 6, 1974. His Marker can be found in the
Crown Hill Cemetery in Bath County, KY. Morgan's Station,
located in present day Montgomery County, Kentucky was an
early outpost or settlement in Kentucky. Ralph Morgan
established the station in February 1789 and it was the site of
the LAST Indian Raid in Kentucky on April 1st, 1793.
In this raid, 19 women and children were captured. 12 of these
prisoners were later killed during their captors flight from their
pursuers. Of course, this Axe predates this raid by several

- Description: Highly Formed Indiana 3/4 Groove Fluted Axe - This is a Highly stylized form with Great definition. It is 3/4 groove and is squared off on the front and back. It is slightly fluted on the hafting side where the axe handle attached. (see photos). It has a nice bit. This big axe was found in Fredericksburg, Indiana along the Blue River. It remained in the Farmers ownership for many years until purchased from him by the collector that I got it from. It is a very nice hefty axe weighing in at 4.53 lbs. It has some slight ancient head damage as you will see in most large axes. Ex- Bourland, Ex- Monty Pennington

- Description: Kentucky Full Groove Axe - This big Kentucky axe weighs in at 4 lbs 3 ozs. It is of the "Full Groove" variety. It was found in Fayette County Kentucky. It is a well made large Axe with nice form and bit. (see photos) This piece was purchased in a group of artifacts on a board which hung in Green's Filling Station on Harrodsburg Road in Lexington, KY, where Ramsey's Diner now stands, from around 1940 until around 1974. - Item: HS109 Super Large Axe
- Description: LARGE Kentucky Full Groove Camp Axe - This Large KY Hardstone axe was found by Marcus Jones near Sherburne, KY along the Licking River in Bath County, Kentucky in the early 1980's. It is a VERY large, heavy axe weighing in at 6.71 pounds. It is full groove and has patinated darker on one side than the other. The lighter side has material lines that look like "worm" tracks (see photos). It has a couple of surface scrapes that reveal the rich green material that it is made from. It is 7 7/8 inches long, 5 5/8 inches wide, and 3 1/4 inches thick at the thickest point. I purchased it from the finder on October 5th, 2005. From my personal collection. Ex- Monty Pennington
