- Description: HUGE Kentucky Hornstone Knobbed
Hardin - This HUGE Knobbed Hardin was found in Harrison
County, Kentucky. It is made of Hornstone and is right at 6
inches long! Big Hardins like this are rare and
very seldom come on the market. It has excellent symmetry and
form. Mr. Foley told me that he could show me the field
where it was found, just outside of Cynthiana, Kentucky. It
was found in the 1940's by Howard Jones near
Oddville, Kentucky. Mr. Foley purchased this Hardin
from the finder in 1958 for a huge price at the time of $100.
It remained in the collection of Mr. Phillip Foley untill 1979
when he sold it. This Fantastic Hardin comes with a Tom Davis COA grading it a G-9.

- Description: FANTASTIC High Grade Hornstone Serrated KY Knobbed Hardin - This OUTSTANDING KNOBBED HARDIN has been in a private collection for nearly 25 years. It is made of super high grade Hornstone and may be Knox Chert or highly patinated high grade Sonora Chert. It was found in Edmonson County, KY many years ago. This is one of the finest Hardins that you will ever see for sale. Most of this quality never make it out of private collections. This one has extreme serrations down both blade edges. The ears have been anciently removed, probably during the re-sharpening process, them being in the softer "cortex" material. - Description: Kentucky Stemmed Hardin - Here is on of those pieces that is hard to type. I believe it to be a Hardin of the "stemmed" variety. I have been able to examine a hand full of these and that is the best typology that I can give them. It is well ground on the sides of the base and slightly lighter on the bottom of the base. It exhibits Archaic Flaking and is steeply beveled from resharpening (see photos). It is made of St.Louis Green Chert with nice iron deposits and a "bluish green" bulls eye. A very nice Archaic piece if a bit odd. Found in Estill County, Kentucky.
